Cosmocitizens is currently founder-led with an emerging programme team, advisors, active contributors, partners and a wider international network. It is being built with the intention of becoming a shared civic institution, shaped by many hands over time.
ABOUT
Dr. Magdalena Śmieszek is a human rights and global governance expert working at the intersection of international law, technology, and planetary futures. With the lived experience of a migratory childhood via the refugee camps of Italy to multicultural Canada, she later took the path of a humanitarian around the world. She has worked within international institutions, including a decade long career with UN agencies (UNHCR, UNICEF, UNDP, IOM) in many parts of our planet, while her scholarly work has examined how international systems evolve under conditions of psychological complexity and global transformation. Through these experiences, one reality became clear. People are governed by systems they cannot see, influence, or appeal, creating further gaps between the so-called powerful and the powerless. Cosmocitizens is her answer to that gap, to make the cosmopolitan ideals a lived reality for everyone, to be truly inclusionary. It is an endeavor to build new civic foundations for a world that is already planetary, and soon interplanetary, so that governance is not just something that happens to people, but something people co-create.
