Opening Space: A Dialogue on AI and Democracy
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in social, political, and economic systems, it is beginning to reshape the conditions under which democracy operates. Decisions are influenced, mediated, or made through systems that are often opaque, privately governed, and unevenly understood.
This raises a set of urgent but still largely open questions:
What happens to democracy when intelligence is no longer exclusively human?
Where does responsibility lie in systems that are distributed, automated, and difficult to trace?
And how might democratic principles evolve in response?
This is a dialogue. A space to think together about:
the relationship between AI and democratic governance
emerging forms of power and influence
responsibility, accountability, and legitimacy in complex systems
No prior technical expertise is required, only a willingness to engage with the questions.
